Anime Analyze: Eureka Seven (Anime)

So the next anime that I took a look at is the popular anime called Eureka Seven.  Started back in 2005 by Bones studios, the anime runs for 50 episodes and later that year was made into a manga series.  After finishing it's run in 2006 it won best anime series in the 2006 Tokyo International Anime Fair and won other awards as well.  Put into the Sci-Fi genre it is based around action, comedy, and romance all rolled into one.  From what I can tell, this anime is very well known and is very popular worldwide.  Due to the length there were a few opening songs, the first being "Days" by the band FLOW, the second, "Shounen Heart" by Home Made Kazoku, the third was "Taiyo no Mannaka he" by Bivattchee, and the last one was "Sakura" by NIRGILIS.  So here is my review on the widley acclaimed anime called Eureka Seven.

OP 1 "Days" by FLOW

(Apologies, I could not find a good video of the Second opening for Eureka Seven, and that one was my favorite too :(, look it up it is "Shounen Heart" by Home Made Kazoku

OP 3 "Taiyo no Mannaka he" by Bivattchee

OP 4 "Sakura" by NIRGILIS

So, we start with a young boy, kinda early teens who is living with his grandfather.  The boy's name is Renton Thurston.  He lives on a planet that humanity escaped to after fleeing earth 10,000 years ago because the planet was taken over by a sentient being that had come to earth some time before.  Renton's father, Ardrock Thurston was known throughout the land as a hero because he died saving the world from a terrible catastrophe.  He is a huge fan of the sport known as reffing, which is where you almost surf on the air but the atmosphere of the planet has this stuff called trapar which can help to levitate things while flying and is used for most aircraft as well as these machines called LFOs which can ref on larger boards and are used for combat.  While there is a main government over this land, it doesn't do a whole lot except for military stuff and as such there are different rebel groups that have popped up over the years, the most popular being Gekkostate, led by professional ref boarder Holland, the group of which Renton has dreams of joining.  Well for Renton this happens sooner than expected, with a LFO called Nirvash typeZERO showing up which turns out to be the first LFO ever created.  It is driven by a small girl around Renton's age named Eureka who has blue hair and strange purple eyes and is a part of Gekkostate.  After Renton helps Eureka and Holland defeat some military personnel, he joins Gekkostate and goes on an adventure.

As he learns more about the members they have a lot of different adventures together which are mostly publicized through a magazine called Ray=Out which follows Gekkostate around on their journeys.  Through this, Renton eventually becomes known to the world and, because he is a member of Gekkostate, he is labeled as a criminal just like the rest of the gang.  The only thing that made joining the group worthwhile for him turns to be Eureka, the girl who pilots the Nirvash.  Through the show their relationship grows and they begin to like each other, and while they go through some hard times (for example, Renton leaves Gekkostate for a while and finds two other nice people who, when returning to Gekkostate, have to fight all of Rentons friends which puts him into a very conflicted situation), they grow to like each other more and more.  As they go through their journeys they meet up with some very diverse peoples, some who know about the Nirvash and where it came from as well as what it is as the Nirvash constantly starts acting as if it may be alive rather than a machine.  Others are members of some different cultures that have different beliefs than the group which puts them into scenarios that put them to the challenge of facing people with different values.

As we watch Renton and his story we also sometimes go to another boy who is a part of the military named Dominic Sorel, who has a job in the military to take care of a girl named Anemone, who is used as a weapon, controlling a LFO that acts as though it is a copy of the Nirvash typeZERO called Nirvash theEND.  We see him as he is confronted by how the military treats this girl as well as how the military is going about what it does in it's planning of various schemes across the planet.  As we go through the show we learn more about what the LFO's are as well as what mysterious things may be waiting on the planet as well as the origins of Eureka and other events that start to happen all around the planet.

This show was really fun to watch and I can see why people love it so much.  First off, the premise is just great. As humanity is learning more about the planet they have gone too after fleeing their home planet, they live on their lives in the new environment that gives them things such as the trapar to be able to fly.  The group known as Gekkostate is always fun to watch with many different types of characters to see.  And while there is the whole, regular boy meets with some group and decides then and there to leave home, the story is just so inventive of itself that it makes up for anything cliche that they did, which wasn't a whole lot.  The plot moves along at a regular pace and while the show is a bit longer than some, it needed it in order to tell the story right.  While they did have some episodes in there that didn't really have to do with the overall plot, the episodes were used then to bring out some character development that helped the series to move forward with the relationships that were growing especially when it came to Renton and the rest of Gekkostate.

Animation in this show was great.  Having been made back in 2006, it wasn't as clear cut as some of the anime that are being made today, it still looked really freakin' good.  The settings were colorful and the scenes where they are flying through the air on the LFOs and fighting were so well put together.  Everything from the ships to the different facets of nature were so well designed, and they really looked cool when it came to how they worked.  The design of the characters were so creative when it came to how their hair was to how they dressed.  With the exception of the military guys, everyone had their own individual style and it helped when it came to showing their individual styles and personalities.

As i said before, the characters in this show are plentiful and diverse.  Each character had their own personality and flair and they each had something to offer the show even the minor characters who showed up in one episode had a part in development.  The biggest facet of the development was obviously Renton especially when it came to his relationship with Eureka.  While they both didn't really know what it meant to love or even to have feelings for another person, we see both sides of the relationship and how they both learn through experiences and through watching and talking with other people in order to learn more about themselves and others.  As their relationship grows, others do as well, almost every member of Gekkostate has someone that they have some sort of "relationship" with even if it is not romantic and that creates such a great scenario for the whole romance between Renton and Eureka because while they are growing their own relationship, they help others with theirs and are able to learn from other people's relationships as well.

As a whole, this show was amazing.  Everything was put together so well that you could not have imagined the story going any other way or the animation being any different.  It was so much fun to watch and even though it is a bit longer than some other shows, it was definitely worth the time.  If you haven't seen this one, it is so worth checking out and you will not regret it.  I am giving this show a 9.9/10 because it is worth it that much for all of the things involved.  It will be worth the time of anyone who likes to watch anime.  That is my review of Eureka Seven. I will see you all later and have a pleasant week.
